An aura hovers over Mêda, enchanting the Traveller by the pure state of the surrounding Nature, by the territory rich in castles and emblazoned houses and by the inhabitants, people of work, of celebration and a thousand trades.

In this tour, we appeal to the Traveller to experience the unique ambience offered by the Longroiva Thermal Spa, an iconic place that will awaken multiple emotions and sensations in the Traveller, invigorating him to the emersion that we propose in this territory.

In this territory, marked by the crossroads between the terraces of the Douro and the granite hills of the Serra, we challenge the traveller to "dive" into the archaeological site of Vale do Mouro, an ancient Roman village that keeps traces of an ancient Roman baths and a tiled patio, identifying marks of the Roman occupation period in the Iberian Peninsula.

But it is the monumental cultural heritage associated with military architecture - Castles of Marialva, Longroiva and Ranhados - that defines this territory, true relics in granite that "hide" so many stories since the Middle Ages. The conquest and defence of the national identity passed through these lands during several periods of Portugal's History, memories that the traveller cannot miss in this itinerary through Mêda's monumental heritage.

With an image that transmits the sensation that the past is very close, the streets flanked by buildings resistant to time invite the traveller to the walled citadel where a group of ruined buildings constitute the mysterious link that connects the past to the present in a way that "moves the traveller, tightens his throat and makes tears rise to his eyes", that's how Saramago felt in Marialva.
